New Blog

The reason I haven't been posting in forever (not like I really did, before, right?) is that my friend Tasha and I have a new blog we started together over at pinsandneedles2013.com. We met last year and discovered we have a TON in common! Our boys are eight months apart, we're both SAHMs with a passion for crafting and creating, and now our new little ones will be only two months apart! Oh she's a whole four days older than I am. Her husband says we are freaks of nature meant to be friends...

So maybe someday I'll start blogging on my own again, but it's so much easier to have someone to share the load with!

Signing off...

Amy :)

Home Birth of Jonathan Edward

I discovered a few months ago that I'm pregnant again (Yay! Mostly...).
My husband grew up as an only child and so he really wanted John to have siblings. I grew up as one of three, so I was OK with him being an only child :P

We started trying when he was nine months old and it just didn't happen. When I went off birth control with John, it only took us two months, so I just assumed that's what would happen this time. The longer it took, the more I was OK with only one kid. I mean, how cool is this guy?

Very cool. That's how. He sleeps like an angel (NOT like a baby), plays by himself, and charms everyone he meets into the John Fan Club. I think a lot of it has to do with how he was born. Now that I'm going through it again (and yes, I really am excited. It's just been three long months of morning sickness, tiredness, and remembering how draining it was to have an infant. And this time I get to do it with an active toddler. Yeehaw.), I figured I better record my birth experience so it doesn't get erased from my memory banks after this one! So here goes:

A Lonely Blog

Wow. I am reeeaaalllly bad about this consistent posting nonsense...

To be fair, though, I've never been good at keeping a diary. I'd get a cute Lisa Frank one for my birthday - you know the ones with the puppies or unicorns or rainbows - and spend a couple days just unlocking and smelling the new paper (I have a slight obsession with office supplies...) and trying to decide the perfect thing to write. After a week, when nothing earth-shockingly clever struck, I'd lock the journal, put it in my nightstand drawer, and forget about it.

That's kind of what happened here. I'm the oldest child of three and I'm not half bad at poetry. I used to read them in church in instead of special music some Sundays - I got pretty used to being called amazing. I also got my dad's knack for storytelling (read: exaggerating something until it makes a good story). We can make almost anything funny if you give us a few minutes with it! But, man, when it comes to actually writing things down, I obsess. I guess I've always felt that if what I write isn't "earth-shockingly clover" no one's going to want to read it. So I spend forever agonizing over word choices and sentence placement. You wouldn't believe how long it took me to write this paragraph, in fact...

But I just recently realized something. No one reads this blog anyway! It might sound kind of sad, but it's also a relief not having to impress anyone. I always assumed that if I started a blog, it would instantly skyrocket in popularity cause I'm interesting and funny, dammit. Since that didn't happen, I ignored it. Yes, I may be a showoff with some narcissistic tendencies, but at least I can admit it, right?

So, this is going to be my little me-space online - Lord knows I spend enough time online as it is! I'm not ever going to have Make-It Mondays and Tell-It-All Thursdays and so I will probably never have one of the Top Ten Blogs of all Time. And I'm OK with that. I'll use this to promote my Etsy shop and write about things I find interesting and that'll be about it. And maybe a funny story every now and then :)

Maybe someday, someone other than my mom will want to read my lonely little blog and I'll be thrilled to death about it. But I'm going to enjoy getting there and spending some time getting to know myself better by writing.

Fabric Options for Etsy - Seams like Sunday

Since my Flickr doesn't seem to want to let anyone see the fabric options I have available in my shop, I figured I would just post them here. Get ready for lots of pics!

If you need more pictures or information, just let me know (preferably by convoing me through Etsy as I check that account fairly often). Also available are any of the fabrics on Fabric.com or Joann.com.

Approximate pricing for duvet covers is as follows - these are subject to exact sizes and cost of the fabric:
*Up to 49" long - $35
*Up to 65" long - $45
(These are for a width of 44" or less. Wider than that more or less doubles the cost, due to the amount of fabric needed.)
*Cover for the Pottery Barn comforter (36x50) is $45
*Twin size duvet cover: 72" x 90" - $130

The covers have snaps at the bottom which is doubly reinforced for durability.

Other options include pillowcases (Standard size - 21"x32": $20) and sheets (price depends on size). I'll be adding various purses and diaper bags in the days to come! All will be available in the same fabric options.

Let me know if you have something special in mind - I love doing custom work!

My Husband Won't Let Me Get a New Singer - Or, How to Clean Your Machine

This is one of my favorite things in my house:
My mom bought it for my a couple years ago for Christmas and I use it at least five days a week, making all this stuff. My husband, though I love him dearly, doesn't really understand the lure of fat quarters and JoAnn's Red Tag Sale. So when I told him I needed a new machine, he wanted to know why: The feed dogs aren't pulling through, the buttonholer doesn't buttonhole, the zig zag skips constantly, the tension is whacked, and it squeaks. Didn't matter. He was convinced I didn't need a new one. So, I decided to pull it apart and clean it, and if a few little parts happened to break, then I would definitely need a new one!

Turns out it's a good thing I did! And if you're husband is a big old meany-head as frugal as mine, here's how I did it.

This year is the first time I entered the Handmade Gift Exchange by Craftaholics Anonymous. What a great idea! I love the idea of getting a totally random gift from a totally random stranger! Mostly, I love getting packages. I try not to visit Amazon.com too often...

It took me a while to think of what to make, but thanks to the glut of wreath ideas, I decided to go with the current trend.

I think it turned out pretty cute.

Hey everyone!

So I've been debating how to write a first blog post. Do I do something totally awesome that will blow your minds? Something simple and work into the cool? Hmm... I'm thinking The Tiny Tyrant's first birthday is kinda a good mix of 'yeah - we are that cool' and 'crap! you meant this weekend!?!'

His big day is a couple weeks before his cousin's who is turning eight. Alley Cat loves everything BOY (we're working on that). So when we were talking about ideas, she decided dinosaurs was a good idea. Especially Scary Dinosaurs! Which totally works for me :)

Yep. Dino eating fruit guts. All the kids thought this was pretty cool. And it was so much easier to carve than I thought it would be!
